Pneumonia and back pain, interesting Osteopathic case!
Mr P presents to the clinic with a deep seated, knawing pain in the left shoulder that has been present for 3 days. He recounts that the condition started after he played golf and specifically when he sat down at home afterwards and started drinking a glass of red wine.
He had never had the pain before, and was feeling uneasy and distinctly off. Otherwise his general health was perfect. He reports his game of golf was below par as well…
An ambulance was called initially but did not find anything wrong with the heart.
After initial treatment from us, an x-ray was ordered by our Melbourne osteopaths at City Osteopathy. He was found to have pneumonia of the left lung, which was causing his diaphragm to get irritated. This was then giving him classic referring pain to the left shoulder, unusual but true. Gp referral and antibiotics meant a very swift recovery thanks to an early diagnosis!
Moral of story, go see an expert if in pain, there can be many different causes.
